What is the Child Care Assistance Program?
The Child Care Assistance Program, managed by New Mexico’s ECECD, provides subsidies to help working, school-attending, or job-seeking families afford child care for children ages 6 weeks to 13 years (up to 18 if special supervision is necessary). Families making up to 400% of the federal poverty level are eligible, and copayments are currently waived.
How do I apply for CCAP?
You can apply in three convenient ways:

Online: Visit the ECECD Apply for Services portal—create an account, select Child Care Assistance, upload documents, and track your application.

By phone: Call 1‑800‑832‑1321 for application assistance or provider referrals.

In person: Visit a regional Child Care Assistance office—find locations in the ECECD Document Library

By email: Send your completed application and documents to Child.Care@state.nm.us
How long does it take to receive funds?
Once your full application is submitted, ECECD processes it within 10 working days Providers are paid monthly directly by ECECD.
What do the application steps look like?

ECECD authorizes your provider, who begins billing monthly.
What documentation is required?
Proof of Income

Recent pay stubs; self‑employment income; SSI or veteran benefits (child support and some public benefits exempt).
Child Identification

Birth certificate or hospital birth record for each child.
Residency Verification

Lease, utility bill, or other documents showing your current New Mexico address .
Adult Activity Proof (if applicable)

Common FAQs
1. Can families with incomes over 150% FPL still qualify?
Yes—families can remain eligible for CCAP up to 400% FPL, and copays are currently waived.
2. What ages are eligible?
Children from 6 weeks to 13 years, or up to 18 years for those needing special supervision.
3. Can I choose any provider?
Yes—licensed centers, registered family homes, or before/after-school programs, selected via the Child Care Finder.
4. Is there a family copayment?
Copays are currently waived, but ECECD will provide three months’ notice before reinstating them.
5. What if I miss the 14-day document deadline?
ECECD will issue a Notice of Action stating which documents are missing. If not provided within 14 days, your application may be denied.
