What is the MI Tri‑Share Child Care Program?

The MI Tri‑Share Child Care Program is a cost-sharing benefit administered by Child Care Network and MI LEAP in partnership with Michigan employers and the State. Parents, employers, and the state each contribute one-third of licensed child care costs. This program supports families earning between 200%–400% of the Federal Poverty Level who don’t qualify for traditional subsidies.

How long does it take to receive funds through Tri‑Share?

Once billing starts, providers receive their combined payment (from employee, employer, and state) within about two weeks via the Tri‑Share hub.


What do the application steps look like?

  1. Employee fills out form at mitrishare.org/employees to confirm income and eligibility.

  2. Employer signs up via the Employer page and chooses care “slots.”

  3. Family selects a licensed provider; hubs assist if needed.

  4. Provider onboards and sets up billing.

  5. Employer is invoiced monthly for employer + employee shares; state’s portion is managed automatically.

  6. Provider receives full payment within two weeks.

  7. Eligibility is redetermined every two years.


What documentation is required?

  • Income verification (paystubs/tax documents) to confirm 200–400% FPL eligibility.

  • Proof of employment with a participating employer.

  • Licensed provider details (name, license number).

  • Recertification documentation may be requested every two years.
